right now. There is a major significance
about being offered 0845 and 01753 access that
isn't immediately apparent. (See 01753 glossary

Slough bases access number, though not local
to all locations in U.K., does offer a number
of major advantages over ISP's offering a
single point of entry to the internet. Firstly,
this number is totally independently operated
from the 0845 access number. This will ensure
that you can always get onto the internet,
regardless of any local disaster that may
take place or bandwidth problems that you
may be experiencing. Secondly, this number is situated on a cable provider's network
(Telewest). This means that you can make
significant savings by using this number if you are also on that cable network.
Note however, that this number does not support
56k OR ISDN connectivity. |

allows your computer to
talk to another computer
over a telephone line connection. |
| ISDN |
Instead of connecting to the internet using
a modem with a regular telephone line, you
can use integrated services digital (ISDN)
over a dedicated isdn phone line. For People who want fast
access to information, ISDN. Allows information
to be sent more reliably at more higher densities
and speeds.. the connect times to the internet
are around 2 seconds as opposed to around
35 seconds for a standard modem based dial-up. |

is a computer usually permanently connected
to the internet running a web server application.
This computer usually hosts a number of web sites. e.g. www.uv.net actually refers
to a computer named www.uv.net that happens
to be running a web server (24 hours a day,
365 days a year).. |

(File transfer protocol) is a method that
allows you to transfer information from one
computer to another. Usually being employed
in this case to transfer information from a computer on
the internet to your computer or to transfer
your web pages to our web server. BBS Bulletin
Board System. A computer system that provides
its users files for downloading and areas
for electronic discussions. However, our
advanced bbs system allows you to do a host
of other useful things (edit e-mail, change
your settings, view your account history

ISDN or Leased lines. |
| LEASED LINE |
is a telecommunications connection between
two computers. The difference between this
and for example isdn or standard dial-up
is that this connection is permanently active
and incurs no usage charge. |
| Mailing List |
A list of people who receive mails sent to
one e-mail address. e.g. support@uv.net is
a mailing-list that will send your email
message to all staff who deal with support queries. |
| ISDN ROUTER |
A device that will connect a network to another
network. For example with our easylan ISDN
service, we supply you with an isdn router to enable your network to be connected to
our network (which is on the internet). Hence
your network gains an internet connection
via this isdn router. |
